Young Learners English (YLE)

Cambridge Assessment English

There are 6 levels in the Young Learners English (YLE) programme for learners aged 7 to 12 offered at our exam preparation centre, CEA English Academy

If your child is enrolled in the Pre A1 Starters (YLE Starters), A1 Movers (YLE Movers), or A2 Flyers (YLE Flyers) course, he or she will be fully prepared to sit the Cambridge YLE Test by the end of their respective course. Our Super Starters, Mighty Movers, and Fantastic Flyers courses serve as a bridge which prepare students for higher level courses and tests.

The Young Learners English (YLE) courses develop children’s competence and confidence by focusing on four skills: reading, writing, listening, speaking.

All courses are based on modules and themes which match with the child’s proficiency in the English language and his/her stage of development. CEA students are not only taught to prepare for the international Cambridge English YLE Tests but through the exciting and fun activities, they also learn the English language skills and other essential life skills which will prepare them to use English in real life.

At CEA your child will:

  • be supported through activities such as communicative games, songs, chants, dramas and role-plays which emphasise on spoken fluency and pronunciation .
  • read and write stories, letters and essays to learn a variety of text types and styles of writing.
  • listen to songs and other text types such as descriptive essays, announcements or letters.
  • learn about vocabulary and grammar rules and do activities that help them better understand what they have learnt. This enables them to use the correct vocabulary and grammar in their daily life.
  • work on projects to activate and consolidate English learned in class, and develop collaborative learning skills
  • be encouraged to carry out interactive communication activities in pairs, groups and whole class.
  • sit for tests that are designed to familiarise them with the latest Cambridge English test formats. The speaking test practice is conducted by the teacher one-to-one with your child.

We recognise that each child is unique and has different preferred learning styles. Therefore, we deliver the lessons through student-centred and multisensory approach where students’ learning process is stimulated through visual, auditory, reading, writing, and kinaesthetic activities.

All these interactive activities are aimed at allowing them to employ higher-order thinking skills and to retain what they have learnt more effectively. The lessons will also provide opportunities for your child to construct for themselves knowledge that is meaningful to them and to enhance their creativity. Your child will definitely love such fun and motivating classes!
